Our assessment

uBlock Origin is the reference content blocker: it blocks ads, trackers and malware domains with lower memory use than most competitors and is open source. On Chrome the Manifest V3 transition limits dynamic filtering; as of October 2026 the project recommends Firefox for the full version, and uBlock Origin Lite is the Chrome option. It is free to use, which makes the project's own funding and maintenance worth checking before you rely on it.
